Wireless printers are great!  The printer can be in a totally different room than your computing device and you can still print to it!

There are a couple of negatives, though, and one of those includes losing the printer from your Wi-Fi network.  We see this over and over.  Sometimes, it’s because you got a new modem and/or router.  When that happens, you almost always have a new wireless network name (SSID) and password.  Other times, it’s because the printer just drops off the wireless network.

Most printers will allow you to set up the wireless network right at the printer itself.  Unfortunately, manual set up is often tedious and many printer owners aren’t able to perform this task.

If you’re a Remote Technical Support customer (you should be), helping you remotely isn’t always possible.  UNLESS… you have a printer USB cable like the one shown in the picture above.  If you are able to hook up your printer to your computer, we can almost always get it back online for you re motely.

Still, there’s another reason you should always have a printer USB cable – suppose you lose Wi-Fi and you desperately need to print something?  Not a problem – you just hook up the USB cord from the printer to the computer, give the computer a few minutes to install it, and you can print away.

If you have a wireless printer, make sure TODAY that you have a printer USB cable – just in case!
