Apple has recalled older 15″ MacBook Pro computers for free battery replacement because of an overheating issue which could cause a fire. If you have a MacBook Pro that was manufactured between September 2015 and February 2017, you need to check if it is one of the units recalled. You will do that by entering your Mac’s serial number on a special page which I’ll share below.
How do you find when your Mac was manufactured and how do you get the serial number? Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen (the apple icon). Confirm your model is “MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015).” (Listed on the Overview tab.) If it is, copy the serial number, which is also listed there and enter the serial number in the proper field on the Apple recall page found HERE. If your MacBook Pro is one of the units recalled, instructions on how to get the battery replaced are on the same page.
I cannot stress the importance of your attention to this matter if you own a 15″ MacBook Pro manufactured during the listed time frame.
