
The title of this post is what I heard a few days ago when I answered a phone call from one of our customers.
It’s difficult to believe that I’ve been on a soapbox for 4 years preaching the same message: Microsoft, Apple and others don’t call you on the phone to tell you there’s a problem with your computer. They also don’t cause pop-ups to appear warning you that your device is infected and you shouldn’t turn it off but that you should call them right away.
It really has been four years since I created a YouTube video explaining how these tactics are scams. Yet, I still have customers who fall for these fake warnings. I still have customers who let total strangers (who sought them out through a phone call or a pop-up) onto their computers.
