Do you remember when I posted this picture last July 21st? If you read the post from that day, “What A Motely Crew!“, you know that all of these famous people had their Twitter accounts hacked. The person behind the intrusion scammed people around the world out of more than $100,000 in Bitcoin. That was the bad news.
Here’s the good news: the hacker, Graham Ivan Clark, was caught and, although initially pleading “Not guilty,” finally reached a plea agreement. He pled guilty; and, he will spend three years behind bars and an additional three years on probation. He was only 17 at the time, so his sentence will be served in a juvenile facility.
Clark was actually the mastermind behind the scam with two other people participating. Mason Sheppard and Nima Fazeli were also indicted and charged for participating.
While fighting hackers and scammers can be frustrating – especially when all we want to do is use the Internet to make our lives easier, it’s nice to see that some bad guys actually do get caught.
