In yesterday’s webinar, “Search Like A Pro,” I indicated that I would share which search engine I recommend. (If you missed the webinar, it’s at the end of this post. You can watch it now!) Google Search is, by far, the most popular search engine. Microsoft’s Bing Search sometimes gets put down by some Internet users but, in fact, it’s a very good search engine. However, both of these search products (and lots of others) have one thread in common – they collect data about your search habits – where you’ve been, how often you go there, etc. They do this, in part, to steer relevant advertising your way. Some people say it’s the way of the world in today’s computer age. But, for people who worry that these companies are gathering too much information about us, this is a concern.
If you want privacy in searching, there’s an alternative. It’s called DuckDuckGo. You can use your browser to visit duckduckgo.com, you can install a plug-in in Google Chrome and Firefox so your searches will happen in DuckDuckGo and, on your smartphones, you can install their app.
Here’s their philosophy (taken right from their website):

Besides private search, DuckDuckGo has a great blog filled with articles about privacy on the Internet. It would be worth a few minutes to check it out. You’ll find it HERE.
