Update Week!

Windows 10 screen showing the words Patch Tuesday

This week we celebrated Patch Tuesday. That’s the second Tuesday of the month when Microsoft (mainly) and other software companies release updates for the month. Your Windows PC should automatically download and install these updates but you can always check for yourself, if you like. If you’re a Remote Technical Support customer (www.4kcc.com/rts), you can also log in to us and we’ll check for you. (How you check for updates is slightly different in Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 so I won’t go into that in this post.)

On Wednesday, Google issued a very important update for their browser, Google Chrome. While Google is pretty good at updating their browser shortly after an update comes out, you can also manually check for an update and install it, if needed. Checking it is easy.

  • Open Google Chrome
  • In the upper right-hand corner, click on the three vertical dots.
  • Move your mouse to HELP which appears near the bottom of the menu
  • Another, smaller menu appears. Click on About Google Chrome
  • A new tab will open and Chrome will check for updates. If your Chrome is current, there’s nothing to do. If there is an update, once it’s downloaded and installed, you’ll be asked to click on the Relaunch button. Then, you’re done with the updating!

Needless to say, these updates should be installed as soon as possible.
