Whatever Happened To Columbus Day?

In the United States, Columbus Day is still a Federal holiday.  The Federal Reserve is closed, as is the US Postal Service.  Non-essential Federal employees have the day off, as well.  On the state level, however, controversy reigns.  More and more states either ignore Columbus Day altogether or they have replaced it with another holiday such as Indigenous Peoples’ Day or Native American Day.

If you’re my age or older, you probably grew up celebrating Christopher Columbus and his discovery of America.  However, it turns out that old Chris wasn’t that nice of a guy.  How do I know this?  Easy!  I used a search engine on the Internet to find out all about the Columbus Day polemic.

Now, it’s your turn.  Use either the Bing or the Google search engine to find out which state celebrates Native American Day in place of Columbus Day.  Once you have the answer, come back to this post and fill in the form below.  Under “Comment” put the name of the state.  Then, fill in your name and email address.  (Your comment, name and email address will NOT appear on the blog for others to see – only I will see it.)  The contest is open until 11:59 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2018.  From all the correct answers, we’ll randomly choose a winner.  The prize?  A Cheesecake Sampler valued at $60 from on of our favorite affiliates – Chicago Steakhouse.  No purchase is necessary.  No substitutions are available for the prize. The winner will be notified on Monday, October 15, 2018.
