Search Hint

Look carefully at the picture above.  Today, I want to point out a mistake that is often made when people use a search engine.  When you’re looking for something specific, it’s important to look at the domain of the page you’re going to go to if you click.  Not paying attention to this detail often gets us in trouble on the Internet.  This is how the fake pop-ups can appear which tell you your computer is infected.  (It’s not, by the way.)

The search results above appeared when I searched “Windows 10 Update.”  Of the seven results I’m showing in this picture, only one was actually from Microsoft’s website.  It’s the one highlighted in yellow – answers.microsoft.com.  The other six search results are from other websites.  While some of those sites may be legitimate, they aren’t Microsoft.  If you’re not familiar with a domain, you should be careful in going there.  Always choose sites from the company you’re actually dealing with (in this case, Microsoft) before you click on other sites.
