A Cross Review

One of the great things about shopping online is that you can read reviews of products you’re considering before you actually purchase something. Of course, you need to be careful when you read a review because you can’t see or hear the person writing it. Some people have been known to post false reviews. Luckily, some sites like Amazon only allow people who have made verified purchases to write a review. Of course, even with verified reviews, you should never rely on just one review. Sometimes, there’s a great product but a particular person has a bad experience, often of their own doing.

In this post, I actually want to review Cross pens but with a more historical twist. Normally, when people review something online they will say it was good for this reason or bad for that reason. In this case, however, I want to explain how Cross customer service won me as a lifetime fan forty (40) years ago. Here’s what happened:

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, I worked for a TV and appliance company and someone had given me a gold Cross pen. It was the finest writing pen I had ever used and I guarded it like it was real gold! Anyway, one day I was on the third floor of an apartment building and I was installing a window air conditioner. As I leaned out of the window to get the unit in place, my Cross pen fell out of my shirt pocket and went soaring to the ground! Ugh. I was so upset. When I went downstairs to recover the pen, I discovered that it had landed directly on the point of the pen. The barrel was scratched and the end was bent so that you could not push the ink cartridge out of it.

The next day, I found an address for Cross, packed up my pen, wrote a letter explaining what happened, and asked them to let me know what it would cost to fix so I could send a check. (Credit cards weren’t used much in those days – they were just beginning to gain momentum.)

Two weeks went by and I received a package in the mail from Cross pens. Inside the bag was my pen with a new case, two refills and an invoice for $0.00. I couldn’t believe it! The pen looked as pristine as the day it was given to me and they fixed it for nothing! At that very moment, Cross gained a lifetime customer. To this day, when I want an excellent writing instrument, I don’t look at anything but Cross. If I was writing an online review today, they would get 5 stars and an excellent review. (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

As you might already know, I never become an affiliate with companies I haven’t dealt with before and been happy with. Keeping that in mind, yes, if you purchase something from the link I’m about to share, I’ll get a small kickback. However, I wasn’t associated with Cross when my pen tumbled out of my pocket forty years ago.
