November is Native American Heritage Month and it’s time for you to get busy searching and learning about these first American occupants.
I remember a long, long time ago, when I was in third grade, my teacher introduced us to a vinyl record of American Indian music. I recall it being mysterious, compelling and beautiful.
There have been a number of pop songs related to Native Americans but they haven’t always been accurate. Native Americans are proud people and you should know more about them and their culture.
So, I’m challenging you to take to Bing and/or Google and see if you can answer these questions:
>>Was John D. Loudermilk really taken in by some Cherokee Indians and did they convince him to write “Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)”?
>>What Native American was Vice President of the United States?
>>What’s so special about Native American John Herrington?
>>What was the date of President Trump’s Presidential Proclamation on National Native American Heritage Month, 2018?
>>In the US, how many state parks will be marking Native American Heritage Month in November, 2018?
>>Who were the Native American code talkers and what did they do?
>>Who was the real Pocahontas (not the current politician with that nickname)?
